Faith Formation

St. Thomas United Church is committed to learning and living the faith taught by Jesus. Formerly known as the Christian Education Committee, the Faith Formation Committee is responsible for organizing faith-based activities at St. Thomas. As part of our church's mission, we use the Bible's teachings to take us deeper into faith and action, maintaining the belief that faith is a journey. At St. Thomas we take the Bible seriously but not literally.

Faith Formation includes Confirmation, Sunday School, the Nursery, Family and Intergenerational programs, and Adult Education.

We believe faith is a journey.

The journey of faith begins very early, and children are always welcome in the worship services. However our Nursery provides a safe and fun place for newborns to 3 year olds if parents think their little ones would be happier playing or being cared for by Youth who have their Red Cross Babysitting Certificates. The Nursery is open at most services on a drop-in basis. Parents can also opt to stay in the Nursery during worship services. There is also a lending library with both children's and adult books available for use.

Sunday School

Just as God speaks to us through the pages of the Bible, God speaks to us thorough our day-to-day lives.

St. Thomas' Sunday School program is a Bible story-based rotation model. We focus on a story for 3 weeks at a time. We explore the themes and interpret the meanings behind biblical passages through a variety of activities, including drama, art, science, games and cooking. Children from three years through grade six are encouraged to creatively develop an understanding of the Bible.

The children leave for the Sunday School area for their activities after the Worship Service starts. Each month we learn about a different Bible story from a variety of angles, focusing on active, fun ways to experience it, and wondering about what it teaches us.
