Welcome to St. Thomas!
Whether you have been coming a long time or are new to this community, we are happy you are here! St. Thomas is an open, affirming and friendly space, so we hope you and your loved ones feel comfortable and relaxed no matter where you are on your faith journey. We are a progressive, liberal United church that believes in Open Hands, Open Hearts, Open Minds, that connect scripture to today’s world and each other. We are committed to expressing inclusivity and respectful human rights in all its diversity.
Genuine and radical hospitality starts with welcoming and caring for those who come through our doors, whether you are at home or at church. It really is who we are!
What can you expect?
A warm friendly greeting at the door by Ask Me Hosts and Greeters are ready to welcome you! They can respond to questions you may have and point you in the right direction as needed. There is child-care in the nursery with experienced staff and a Sunday School program for children and youth. Children are very welcome to stay in the service as well. If you appreciate music in many forms, by all ages, St Thomas offers a variety of choirs and instrumentalists. Be prepared to tap your feet and/or sing along. You can expect the unexpected on occasion too. Parking on site and on nearby residential streets is available.
We have lively Youth programs, who meet Friday nights and Sunday mornings. Our Youth and Junior youth programming are extensive, just check out the website! Some of the Youth programming includes weekly social/Outreach events, 3-5 Social Justice projects annually, Youth led services, participation in services and much more.
Coffee is ready before the 10:00 am service. We encourage you to join us for coffee, goodies and conversation following the service. Everyone has a birthday to celebrate. So once during a month we celebrate the birthdays of the month with yummy cakes!
So, come, join us on the journey – wherever you are. The coffee is on, a warm welcome is ready, our door is open for you!
OPEN HANDS
St. Thomas United Church is committed to learning and living the faith taught by Jesus. At St. Thomas we take the Bible seriously but not literally. We use its teachings to take us deeper into faith and action. We are a celebratory community. We believe life is a sacrament. We believe faith is a journey.
OPEN HEARTS
Our fundamental value is love. Jesus taught us that we are to love the Lord, our God, with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength. And to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. We strive to accept each other as we are and welcome the ministry and participation of all persons regardless of age, gender identity, health, race, sexual orientation, differing abilities, religious or ethnic background or economic circumstance.
OPEN MINDS
Flowing out from our fundamental value of love are our core values of respect, cooperation, participation, hospitality, reaching out, sharing, caring, good humour, honesty, forgiveness, and openness – to people, in all aspects of life, to questions and new learning, to new ideas, to the world around us, to differing expressions of faith.
