St. Thomas Strummers Musical Outreach

The Strummers musical group originated from our Church choir, and provides music for some of our church services. In 2016 we began performing in Seniors Homes, at day programs for dementia patients, and at a United Church women’s conference. Despite not performing during Covid restrictions, we have done more than 50 performances.

The 10 or so members in our group play guitars, ukuleles, violin, bass guitar and sing an eclectic mix of songs from oldies through to light rock, folk, country and spiritual numbers.

Our purpose is to bring live music to those who are not as mobile, with songs they will know so they can sing along, and maybe dance to. We play a couple of performances per month mainly at Senior Living Homes and have done over 60 performances. We practice Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 pm -3:00 pm, working on new songs and tightening up the setlist for our next performance. We play an eclectic mix of songs from Rock such as Katmandu, Jailhouse Rock, and Cadillac Ranch, to Classics like Bridge Over Troubled Waters, and Amazing Grace to Country and Folk songs. Our group is available for banquets or parties with a donation to the Church. We have a fantastic group of people and have a lot of fun performing for others. You can hear some samples of one of our performances in the video above.
